The world would definitely be a better place if it were much easier and quicker to make some money. However, we all know that this world is not a perfect place and therefore most of us have to work to make our money. Many people believe that this industry is somehow different and that it is the ideal place to make quick cash and then get out. While this may have been the case in the mid 1990s, it is a much different story these days. Due to sheer saturation of the potential market, webmasters now have to work their asses off to even make a profit. Anyone who has been involved in this industry for several years knows that the online porn business has changed dramatically since it’s inception and that it is no longer a place where quick bucks can be made so readily. What makes me laugh are the number of webmasters that still turn towards this industry with their sights set on making some quick easy money. 

If you have hopes of making quick cash in this business, then you had better hope that you have some ingenious new idea that nobody else has tried and it had better work. If you have hopes of coming in here and doing what everybody else does, then all I will say is good luck. Unless you have large sums of money to pour into design, content, and traffic, then you had better not have dreams of retiring within a year and chances are that if you are looking to make a quick buck it means that you do not already have the bucks. I have always been a believer that you have to have money to make money. Of course, there are people that come from nothing and blah, blah, blah, one day they are making fistfuls of cash because they had some abstract idea and it turned out to be a money maker. However, this is definitely not an every day occurrence, even in this industry. 

So, if you do not have money or resources, where do you start in this business to try to make some money? Free sites of course. This is where most dreamy eyed newbies start out with the hopes of buying that Ferrari by their next birthday. Sure you could probably make a little money with free sites, especially if they are done right, but I would definitely not quit my day job, and I would consider myself lucky if I could afford a new bicycle by the time my next birthday came around. You have to realize that no matter what you intend to do; there will be thousands of other webmasters out there doing the exact same thing. I really think that newbies underestimate the amount of adult webmasters that are actually out there doing just about everything possible to make money. Instead, they hear tales of webmasters who came from nothing, and then with very little work they all of a sudden were rolling in cash, buying Escalades and houses, all at the tender age of twenty-three. Little do they know that a lot of the people that talk about all the money they have, really are covering for the fact that they are barely making ends meet. The people that really have the big bucks usually are not as quick to flaunt it. 

There is a really big strike against those looking for the quick buck and its that the successful members of this industry can easily spot this type of individual and then choose to avoid dealing with them. People want to do business with webmasters who are going to be around long-term and who are willing to put in some hard work. If you are looking gain respect in this business then you had better first prove yourself by committing to the notion that success comes from those who work hard and diligently and is not something that will happen overnight. The days where there was easy money to be made are long past and now we are in an era where you must be innovative and dedicated to achieve success.

I often interview successful webmasters and leaders in this industry and one of my favorite questions to ask is, “What advice would you give a newbie just starting out in order to make money?”. Almost every single person that I interview responds to this question by saying that hard work and dedication are the only ways to make money in this business. A while back I posed this question to Q’on the owner of one of the biggest ebony link lists and resource sites, and his response was, “I feel that as long as you run a tight ship and handle your customers like you would like to be handled, the money will come. Maybe not tomorrow, in two weeks, two months or two years, but it will come and I will be around long after those "get money quick" cats have disappeared.”

I think that just about sums up the point that I have been trying to make. If you are new to this industry, you should approach it with the feeling that you are in it for the long haul to try to make a name for yourself, instead of thinking that this business will be a path to getting rich quick.
