Porn Hits Reality TV
A reality television show about porn; what will they think of next? I feel that reality television shows and Internet sites are starting to push the handle. They are either extremely boring or completely unrealistic. Show producers and site operators have to go to new lengths to make their reality concept unique and they must differentiate them somehow from the thousands of others that are out there. This is why we are starting to see some pretty wacky reality based offerings on both mediums – television and the Internet.
I am currently living in Italy and to watch English television, we receive SKY satellite from Britain. SKY is chocked full of all kinds of crazy reality type shows that play around the clock. There is one called Salon Live that chronicles the comings and goings of people in a hair salon. There are celebrity based reality shows from the United States such as Newlyweds, The Osbournes and The Simple Life (featuring the famed P@ris Hilt0n). There is even a whole channel that is solely dedicated to and aptly named, Reality TV. However, the very best reality shows that SKY TV offers come on after ten PM. When the children are in bed, television takes a turn to the more seductive side with all kinds of naughty reality based series’ steaming up the screen. There is one called Sex on the Job, which has hidden cameras documenting all kinds of dirty behavior going on in the workplace. There is another called Sin Cities, which has cameras traveling the globe, spying on sexually explicit clubs, events, and activities. SKY even goes so far as to broadcast a couple of different reality shows that chronicle the behind the scenes activities of the porn industry.
The first porn reality show is called Porno Valley and it chronicles the activities over at Vivid Entertainment, which is home to both Jenna Jameson and Brianna Banks. The show features cameras that follow the girls’ actions, both on and off the set. You get to see how they live, where they hang out, whom they hook up with, and what they have to deal with because they are porn stars. You also get to go inside the studio to see what happens behind the scenes of a porn shoot. The cameras document absolutely everything, and because the show is aired at night, there is almost full nudity. What the show does not do is portray the porn stars in a very flattering light. It makes them look rather plain when they are not in front of the cameras, which can ruin their image in the minds of some, and it also makes them seem somewhat unintelligent. The show also documents some of the rather unpleasant sides to being a porn star on the set such as preparation and clean-up which involve enemas and douches, and what happens when the co-star is not quite as fresh. The show is great for those men out there that are seeking a little late night boob watching, but it also can deter men from wanting to see these girls in their films, magazines and on the Internet. The reality series makes the girls lose a lot of their luster and appeal.
The second reality series that delves into the porn industry is called, “Family Business”. The show explores the business end of the porn world by documenting the operation of a porn producer’s company. The producer is actually the person who started the whole Seymour Butts phenomenon and now he has a company that produces a wide range of amateur porn movies. The cameras follow the head of the company around as he goes about the daily activities involved in running a porn empire. The cameras also watch the company’s employees, including the bosses’ own elderly mother who handles all the finances. The show is actually pretty interesting because it focuses more on the business aspect of porn as opposed to the model side. It shows that porn businesses are run just the same as mainstream companies, and encounter the same kind of problems, challenges, and conflicts. The funniest part of the show was when the owner’s mother (who looks like a sweet little grandma) had her new neighbor over for tea and then proceeded to tell her what kind of business her family was in. It really is a great show for those people who are interested to see the other side of the porn industry and it also has some nudity for those that just want to watch something with a little skin.
Now that we see these naughty new reality shows on regular television, I can only imagine what will be next. It will probably be a reality show about drug users (they probably already have one). Sex on television is not a new concept, but porn on TV definitely is. Now that it is being broadcast to the masses on a nightly basis, what does this type of exposure do for print and online porn? These reality shows will only drive more customers online to see more of the girls that they get a glimpse of on television. If you have a porn star site that contains any of the Vivid girls, it is time for you to capitalize on this free publicity.
