09/05/2002: The BDSM Store launches Affiliate Plus Program
The BDSM Store launches Affiliate Plus Program
CYBERSPACE September 5, 2002- In just three years the BDSMStore (www.bdsmstore.com) has become one of the major web retailers of BDSM specific gear, apparel, shoes and books. They will soon add BDSM oriented videos and DVD's. You won't find any velcro or fuzzy cuffs here. Their products are for those serious about quality BDSM products.
But the big news is that The BDSM Store has just launched it own affiliate/partner program called the "Affiliate Plus Program". A company spokesperson says, "Our goal is to partner with sites that have an established place in the BDSM market on the internet, however we want to do it carefully so that we protect the revenue stream. The BDSM market is not that big and our focus is to partner with BDSM related sites that have a large amount of traffic and need an up-sell opportunity that truly aters to their viewers." The BDSMStore believes that with-in the BDSM niche market, content sites have a huge opportunity to make additional revenue by taking advantage of the inherent up-sell opportunity present. The BDSMStore often receives inquires from people that provide either a description of a picture or the picture itself and are asked if the gear depicted in it can be purchased from them. The spokesperson goes on to say "We think there is a huge opportunity for content providers to take advantage of our Affiliate Plus Program by offering their customers the opportunity to buy the goods right then and there, on the partner's own website as opposed to sending the customer to another site." Because retailing is a huge commitment of time, money and logistics, it makes sense for content providers to partner with someone who has already made the commitment to the BDSM retail market.
The company's spokesperson went on to say, "At the same time, we are not interested in offering our partners cookie cutter store sites. We want to offer them the opportunity to have a store site that is almost seamless with their existing website. We believe this is much more appealing for our partners than a simple template store site like those offered by other affiliate program operators." Because of the time involved in building and maintaining a seamless or unique site for each of its partners, the BDSMStore is going to be selective about which sites its partners with. This may anger some, but by being selective, The BDSM Store hopes to do their part to help prevent the market from becoming overly saturated with BDSM retail sites and protect the revenue opportunity for their selected partners.
By limiting the number of partners, The BDSM Store is going to be able to provide a lot of benefits not traditional offered by other affiliate programs. The BDSMStore is planning to do all the hosting of the retailing sites on their servers to allow them to easily maintain and update them. The spokesperson went on to says that they are planning to tailor each partners store site design to allow it to be almost seamless with the partner's existing website, including the use of partner provided graphics and matching color themes. Because of this, each partner will have a retail site that is exclusive to them. Because each site is exclusive, they can also incorporate cross promotional efforts and the sales of branded merchandise for the partner should the partner desire. Partners will have access to statistics and can even receive e-mails each time a new order is placed.
